After graduating college in the spring, I spent my entire summer unsure of what I wanted to do. I didn’t know what job or career I wanted and I didn’t have a sense of direction. As a marketing major, all I knew is that I wanted more experience within the field. I wasn’t quite ready for a full-time job in marketing, so what I really wanted was an internship. Fortunately, while I was going on a random walk through the streets of downtown Lafayette, I found the perfect place: Treefrog Marketing.

Here are three valuable lessons I learned from my internship with Treefrog.

1. Enjoy what you’re learning.

All of the research that I had to do here at Treefrog gave me the opportunity to learn about a variety of industries and small businesses. Each client was different and unique. Every now and then, I would find myself talking to friends and family about the new things that I learned.

I feel so much more knowledgeable now and more motivated to keep reading and learning. As a content intern, I was able to enjoy what I learned while also having fun writing about it.

2. Taking breaks are essential.

In the beginning of my internship, I was so focused on trying to get my work done on time that I refused to give myself any breaks. I was constantly looking at the clock and trying to complete all of my work within the timeframe I was given. This didn’t work out because I would eventually reach a point where I would lose creativity or get stuck.

Thankfully, one of the best perks of working at Treefrog is that, every so often, you get to go on little walks to either a coffee shop or a nice little pie shop close to the office. This is when I began to value breaks, because every time I would get back to the office, I felt refreshed and ready to work again.

3. Get to know the team.

One thing I would advise future interns is to take advantage of getting to know the people you work with. That’s one thing I wish I would have done during my time here at Treefrog. As a diligent individual, I tend to only focus on the work I need to do and only ask questions when I have them. But looking back, I wish I would have gotten to know those unique personalities in Treefrog, and I wish they would have gotten to know me better. But at the end of the day, I am grateful for this opportunity and I am happy to have been part of a talented, hardworking team.

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. That is why I have been blessed with this wonderful opportunity. I am happy to have been part of this team and I am excited to see this company grow and succeed even more. Thank you Treefrog for a valuable internship experience!
